Where the idea came from

Review knowledge kept living outside the team

Devconnecter started from a repeated observation across engineering organizations that handle payment or account data. Compliance review work was frequently outsourced, and the reasoning behind each check rarely made its way back into the team. Engineers followed a checklist someone else wrote, without understanding why a particular pattern mattered.

That gap creates a quiet risk. When a new feature touches sensitive data in a way the checklist didn't anticipate, nobody on the team feels equipped to evaluate it. The next audit or review cycle becomes the only backstop, sometimes months later.

This program was designed to close that gap directly. Rather than replacing external certification where one is legally required, it gives engineering teams the working knowledge to catch issues earlier, in their own pull requests, on their own schedule.

Grounded in your codebase

Exercises use anonymized or sandboxed portions of the participating team's actual systems wherever possible, so lessons transfer directly to daily work.

Small group format

Sessions are kept small enough that every participant reviews code aloud at least once per module, rather than watching a single demonstration.

Documentation-first

Teams practice writing findings in a format that would hold up if an internal auditor or a future teammate needed to understand the decision later.

No certificate promises

The program issues a completion record for internal training purposes. It does not claim to satisfy external regulatory certification requirements.

Who runs the sessions

Practitioners with backgrounds in both engineering and financial systems

Facilitators come from backgrounds spanning backend engineering, security review, and financial systems operations. Sessions are co-led whenever the subject matter benefits from more than one perspective, particularly when discussing data flow mapping or access control review.

We do not present facilitators as auditors or as a substitute for a certified compliance officer. Their role is to teach a repeatable review method, drawing on direct experience building and reviewing systems that handle sensitive financial data.
